It is a waste of money. You'll have to find the iChat in the MobileMe page (it took an Apple rep ten minutes to find it) and then you will wait 30-60 minutes for someone who knows little or nothing to help you. Google does it for free and it won't loose your contacts. Do not buy Mobileme if you want to keep your contacts intact. While synching with my new iPhone, MobileMe created three copies of all contacts and when I tried to erase the copies, it erased over 800 contacts that cannot be recovered. I'm not the only one, check the customer blog in MobileMe page for an amazing number of lost data stories. In addition if you subscribe to MobileMe you will not be able to talk to a person about your problem.
One of the best features is being able to publish your iweb-created website on mobile me. It is a yearly subscription, so be prepared to renew it at who knows what cost in a year. Sooooo easy. As with all Apple products, innovation and cutting edge technology is what is evident in this software. It is a bit pricey, so buy it on Amazon and save about 30%.
Doubt that it can match the usability and overall speed of use of the blackberry. I did mention that. There is no option to only load emails going forward; it continued to try to load the thousand emails on the mail server. Had to search outside of their help to find solutions and then try to figure out which preferences I needed to change.Mobileme email is slooooooow, option bare and very Chevy Camaro - looks sexy but drives, well, like a Chevy. Was up until midnight. Do not have a bottle of hard spirits next to you while doing this as you will empty it in your gullet then fill it with gasoline, top it with a wick and fire bomb your computer as you wait for it to load. But if you're looking for the basics, then skip this fail of a solution. Am switching from a Blackberry to an iphone.
Yes, it's that bad.If you're in a similar situation, then I warn you, you will be disappointed with Mobileme. Have I mentioned the loading symbol appears so often that it's a joke. While I ate the cost of mobileme, at least I'll get iDisk (which I'm guessing a similar solution is available from another vendor for cheap for the iphone) and the "lost your iphone, find your iphone on a map" service, so I got that going for me. Seems this will be a better solution. I use yahoo for my "garbage can" collection point for various personal email addresses. Thought Mobileme would be the best solution to get my business email into the phone. I have my business email brought in through POP to my blackberry, so I thought I would do the same through Mobileme while also using this piece of software to bring in and be my primary app for my calendar and contacts. Also, if you're in love with your Blackberry, then you may not want to switch to an iphone.
You have been warned.I wanted to use mobileme and this new iphone for business and have tremendous post-purchase regret as I LOVED my blackberry curve because it was a work horse and was fast and so usable. I had to leave the room to wait for email because I wanted to whip my computer against the wall. Compared to mobileme, it's a very high tech and quick application that I longed for with outstretched arms as I worked with Mobileme. For me, the jury is still out.
Just go gmail, google calendar and google contacts. Mobileme sure isn't helping. Again, it's July 1, 2009 and still clunky. So began the "want to drill a hole in my head with a butterknife" frustration.
This morning, I transferred all to Google calendar, contacts and email. Even the instructions were unclear for Mobileme. Then when it is loading, it takes so long that you don't know if it's crashed or if you've accidentally triggered a worm whole and time has stopped. I thought yahoo was a little clunky.
Highly recommended. After a few minutes, the expiration date on my account moved forward an entire year. Amazon did a great job mailing me a box with a 16-digit code and a pair of Apple stickers in it. And when I typed that 16-digit code in, WOW.
a year just to maintain an email address that worked with my desktop software. The platinum standard customer focus is one of the biggest reasons I love Apple. TRUE AGAIN: It doesn't really like Internet Explorer, and it can be slow on some systems. Love this service. MobileMe prefers Firefox (as do I), tho I can usually manage my email and squeak by on other things in a pinch (it just doesn't look as good -- buttons get scrambled, labels get off-mark, etc). The Apple folk kept in constant communication throughout the difficulties, and compensated it's customers by extending our subscriptions. I have no speed issues on my home system, but on networks that already have connection / speed issues (like my workplace), it can be a headache.
annual fee with all the extras I get from MobileMe (especially the idisk, and public folder ability) is just fine with me. I know, seems like a small thing to blow off the whole product over, but I'm a professional, and an email of @me.com is just too narcissistic -- it would turn off my contacts. If I were stuck with @me.com, I probably wouldn't have gotten the product. I use MobileMe constantly, and have come to rely on it. ALSO TRUE: I got in early enough to have an @mac.com email address.
I was paying $[.]. TRUE: I don't know enough about google apps to compare. It was frustrating, but I'm over it. A $[.]. Yes, I suffered through the 'launch' of MobileMe from.Mac.
